| The TPSC is proud to be a partner with the Positive Coaching
Alliance (PCA) toward making the game a fun and healthy experience for
everyone.
|
The Positive Coaching Alliance was
established at Stanford University in 1998 with the mission of
transforming the culture of youth sports to give all young athletes a
positive, character-building experience. |
The PCA's three primary goals:
1. Replacing the "win at all cost" coaching model with the "Double-Goal
Coach" who strives to win but has a second, more important, goal of using
sports to teach life lessons.
2. Teaching Youth Sport Organization leaders how to create an
organizational culture in which Honoring the Game is the norm.
3. Sparking and fueling a "social epidemic" of Positive Coaching that will
sweep this country (and beyond).
The PCA's three themes of Positive Coaching:
Redefining "Winner"
A Positive Coach helps players learn to focus on
mastery as well as winning, which emphasizes effort, learning and improving, and
developing the courage to make mistakes and rebound from them.
Filling Emotional Tanks
A Positive Coach fills players "Emotional Tanks," recognizing that athletes
need to have full tanks to be able to play their best. A Positive Coach
strives to achieve a 5:1 Praise to Criticism Ratio.
Honoring the Game with Respect For:
Rules: Follow the Letter and Spirit
Opponents:
Remember a Worthy Opponent Brings Out Our Best
Officials:
Respect Them Even When You Disagree
Teammates: Remember Your Commitment On and Off the Field
Tradition: Remember It's a Privilege to Participate
