Request / Confirm Referee Assigning Procedures
Effective Fall 2009

This year TPSC is moving to a “request/confirm” system of referee assignments – similar to that used by the local high schools and other clubs.

Each referee can ask for a game on the mysoccerleague website, but the assignment will require our referee assignor to confirm the request.  If the assignor confirms the request, the referee requesting the game will get the assignment.

PLEASE NOTE, the actual sign up process will be similar to past years: you will click on the "I'll Take It" box on the All Referee Assignments page on mysoccerleague.com. But you will not be confirmed for the game until you receive an email from the assignor confirming your selection from among any other referees requesting that game. We will try to send these confirmations within a day or two. If you receive a 'request declined' email, it will usually be because there were other referees requesting the game (see below).

Why this change: We want to make sure that people sign up for games for which they are qualified by experience and age. We also want to ensure games are fairly distributed among our referee pool and that the majority of our games don’t simply go to who happened to be at the computer when our schedule is released.

The criteria we use to select which referees to assign:

  1. When you sign up (generally we will choose one of the first to sign up)
  2. Age eligibility (older than the players on the field)
  3. Appropriate referee experience for the particular game/division (House, D3, D1, boys/girls)
  4. Our desire to give as many referees as possible the opportunity for work and experience (so we'll spread the games around)
  5. Whether the referee has cancelled games that he or she has been confirmed for (if you're cancelling games during the week before your assigned game--and after we've chosen you over other referees--chances are we will pick others over you next time)

Finally, please note that U-9 and U-10 house games list AR positions with "I'll take it" buttons that all referees can see. However, these slots are ONLY for our non-licensed 11-year-old junior referees. Please do not sign up for these AR spots if you are a licensed referee. (Licensed referees CAN sign up for U-10 center referee positions, however.)
