| The U8 games are handled
differently from the other games. This memo is an effort to inform you of
the unique features of those games and the modifications of the FIFA Laws of
the Game and the CYSA District 5 rules.

1. Some of the time slots involve games are scheduled between two teams,
and other time slots involve games between four teams. If you are assigned
to referee games when only two teams are playing, you will be the only
referee officiating. If the teams want to divide up and play small sided
games, you will only be able to handle one game. A parent or a coach would
have to handle the other game between the same two teams. If there are 4
teams scheduled to play in the same time slot, two referees will be
assigned. In that instance, there probably would not be enough room for 4
small sided games. However, if more than two games are played
simultaneously, you would need the assistance of coach or parent to help
cover the overflow.
2. Use the opportunity to teach proper technique for throw ins, etc.
3. (Unlimited) retakes on bad throw-ins and/or bad free kicks (twice
kicked, etc). Again, use as a teaching opportunity (and feel free to
eventually ignore on any one restart after repeated attempts as long as it
doesn't give the team an advantage).
4. The games are played without goaltenders. This is something that some
parents have resisted because it apparently doesn’t satisfy their
competitive instincts. However, the idea is to promote scoring and
have fun. Please do not let parents change the rules and particularly this
one.
5. No score is kept, and no team is declared a winner or loser.
6. The offside rule is not enforced.
7. All free kicks are indirect whether the result of a foul or any other
cause.
8. The teams on the field consist of 4 players per team, depending on how
many players show up for each team. In certain circumstances, coaches may
agree to field 5 per side.
9. 20 minute halves with a very brief pause 10 minutes into the half
for substitutions.
10. The majority of these games will be refereed by either a TPSC
(non-licensed) "Referee in Training" (RIT) or coach. Some games will be
officiated by licensed USSF referees. 11. No game card is required as in all other games. However, in order to
keep a record of your service, please obtain a game card and fill in the
date, time and location of the game, have a coach sign it and forward it to
John G or Vicki S. If you find yourself without a card, just use a piece of
paper. |
