Coaches' Corner

Coaches, players, referees and TPSC officials are governed by the rules of both the TPSC and its parent organizations, US Club Soccer and the California Youth Soccer Association-North.

Our professional coaches are required to work towards coaching licenses offered by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). The TPSC holds an F-license course for our volunteer coaches. Alternatively, license courses are offered either through the NSCAA or USSF (United States Soccer Federation).

On this page are links to the most recent TPSC and CYSA coaches' manuals. It is incumbent upon all coaches to familiarize themselves with the rules and regulations contained in these manuals.

NOTE:
* U-6 games shall be 3 v 3 or 4 v 4
* U-8 games shall be 4 v 4 with no goalkeepers
* U-9 games shall be 4 v 4 plus a goalkeeper
* U-10 games shall be 8 v 8
* U-11 NorCal league games shall be 8 v 8
* U-12 House league games shall be 8 v 8

* U-12 Competitive and all older Rec league games shall be 11 v 11

CYSA Coaching License Courses
All House coaches are strongly encouraged to take these valuable courses! The TPSC will be holding an F-license course in August.

The California Youth Soccer Association sponsors licensing courses for coaches as well. These are weekend-long courses held throughout the summer. They cover soccer skills, practice drills, team practice design and coaching fundamentals. The F is the beginning course; it is followed by the E course. One TPSC coach commented on the E course, "I'd been coaching for years when I took this course. It was a fun weekend in the classroom and on the field...I wish I'd taken it years ago."

Important Notes about Fields!

Please inform your parents:
No dogs are allowed on any school field at ANY time!
This is a California law and your responsibility to enforce.
No Dogs!

All Fields:
Structure your practices to limit use of the goal boxes and other most-used areas of the fields. The TPSC spends thousands of dollars each year on field maintenance...you can help us keep our fields in good repair.

Seminary
:
Please pick up and drop off players on Seminary Drive only. Please do not pull into the Seminary roads. No animals, no changing clothes, no swearing. Do not climb the fence or leave any trash. Any team persistently violating the rules will be moved off this field. Our ability to continue to use this field depends on everyone's cooperation.

McKegney Green:
Do not park in Pine Terrace. Park on Avenida Miraflores, Blackies lot or at Del Mar. Do not park in the bus stop...you will be cited by the Tiburon Police. Coach of the last practice of the day: put away the goals. If you do not take responsibility for putting the goals away, they WILL be locked up until game day! BE WARNED!

Strawberry Rec:
Please keep players off of the major league diamond and limit their use of the minor league diamond. Do not allow players to use the baseball backstops for shooting practice. There will be financial consequences to the TPSC if these are damaged!

When It Rains

We will update the hot line and if possible the web site until 2pm if the status of a wet field is uncertain. Any wet field that is used must be given special common sense consideration by TPSC coaches, players, and parents.

Coaches: Always stay off of the wettest or muddy areas of a field and always keep practice away from the more worn areas of the field, including the field center and goal boxes.

Safety

Goalposts
Since 1979, there have been 27 deaths in the United States alone from goalposts that have fallen over on players. DO NOT USE unanchored goalposts. Period! Before practice and games, make sure that the posts are anchored/staked/weighted to the ground. If you find goalposts that are not anchored for games, let the club know immediately.

Thunder and Lightning

The TPSC Policy about thunderstorms is as follows:

"TPSC practices and games will be cancelled in the presence of visible lightning or audible thunder."

Thank you for always having a field conscious and player safe practice.
