2020 Spring Academy - SUSPENDED

Dear Parents,

We hope this update finds you and your family safe and well during this trying time.  As we have continued to closely monitor updates that include, but are not limited to, our local schools, other youth sports organizations, various public health departments, the Centers for Disease Control, U.S. Soccer Federation and the State of California regarding COVID-19 and the shelter in place order.

Based on the most recent information, TPSC has decided to suspend the start of our Spring Academy program a few more weeks.  Our current plan is to commence on Tuesday, May 5 which will still allow us to put on the full spring program. Of course, we will continue to monitor and evaluate what the best practice is as we acquire more information.

Our other spring program, the newly formed Marin Spring League for our competitive teams is also on hold for now.  The current plan is for those games to commence on April 18.  Updated information for MSL will be sent to teams if anything changes.

If a decision is made to cancel one or both of our spring programs, we will be sure to inform you as soon as we are able.  If a program is canceled, parents will be offered two options in regard to the fee(s) they paid into these programs already.

1. will be to request a refund of their fees (less the online registration fee already paid to the hosting website).

2. to donate their fee to a fund we have set up to help support our club’s staff that will have a loss of work due to soccer being shut down.  We’ve already set up the site to donate if you are interested in doing so now. http://www.tiburonsoccer.org/home/943557.html  If any spring program is canceled, the button to donate your spring fee will become active.  Any donation will generate an email acknowledgement with our tax id: TPSC is a 501(c)(3) organization.

TPSC has already committed to paying the coaches who were hired to work at the spring academy for the originally scheduled two week suspension interim that we first announced.  This pay is meant to help the coaches who had set aside their time to coach during the March 17 – 27 time and is coming out of a small reserve fund that we have.  We had hoped to be back on the field on March 30 but obviously that will not happen now.  If one or both spring programs is canceled, or if the shelter in place or best practice is for the kids not to be near each other in the summer, then the coaches will see an even longer period of a loss of work and income.  This is a serious hit to our coaches who work solely as soccer professionals.  The support fund that we have set up is meant to help the coaches who would have been working on the TPSC fields this spring and summer and possibly beyond.

Moving forward past this spring, we still hope to have our TPSC summer camps and our robust recreational and competitive fall playing season.   Registration for summer camps should open next month (April) along with the fall recreation registration.

At this time, competitive team tryouts are scheduled to take place on May 3rd and 9th (save the dates).  These dates may change and be rescheduled as the COVID-19 situation evolves.  You may register your child for tryouts now via the link here:  https://tiburonsoccer.sportngin.com/register/form/139208864

As the health and safety of the members of our club is first, we ask that you NOT initiate any soccer training other than what can be done at home with your own family or within the shelter in place orders.  This includes individual private training with our paid coaches, or, small or large group training.  Our Director of Coaching, Mattias Kodzoman, has created some individual training exercises for your child to do during the S-I-P.  You may find them on the front page of our website, www.tiburonsoccer.org

Please continue to do your part in flattening the curve by following the best practices included in the S-I-P order.  And, we hope to see everyone back on the field as soon as we are able.

Kim Stibich, Executive Director
