TPSC Coaches and Parents:
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and TPSC is supporting the cause through one of our own players who has been using soccer juggling to raise money for kids with cancer for five years. New to TPSC this year, 14 year-old Hollis Belger founded JUGGLING FOR JUDE when she was nine. She juggles to raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, where kids with cancer are treated free of charge, and doctors are on the leading edge of research to find a cure. Many Bay Area hospitals partner with St. Jude, providing cutting-edge treatment locally for pediatric cancer patients. Hollis has raised more than $235,000 so far, and her next goal is the $300,000 mark. Her juggling record is 3,215 consecutive touches, alternating left/right and using feet only. It took more than 34 minutes. You can find out more about her fundraiser at www.jugglingforjude.com.
As you'll see on her website, Hollis is the US Soccer "SheBelieves Hero" of 2018, an award given annually by the US Women's National Team to one teen girl for exceptional leadership and service. Hollis has been featured on the US Soccer website multiple times and has worked with the USWNT throughout the year. In fact, if any of you have players who would like an official US World Cup jersey signed by a full roster of USWNT players, Hollis has one in hand, and it will be auctioned off at a St. Jude gala on October 5th! There will be an online auction prior to the gala; you can get the link for that from Hollis's mom (email her at firstname.lastname@example.org) as soon as it goes live (end of September).
In honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and Hollis's 14th birthday on September 13th, we are asking all TPSC teams to do a quick juggling challenge at the beginning of a practice, with parents supporting the effort with a donation of $14, or more, in multiples of 14. Coaches will designate the first ten minutes of a training for all players do as many juggles as they can. The rule is simple: players have to focus and juggle for the entire ten minutes. Donations can be made easily online at https://jugglingforjude.com/donate/. It takes one minute, and 100% of your money goes directly to St. Jude.
