RAINOUT/FIELD CLOSURE INFORMATION

Last updated: June 26, 2008 9:25 PM

Current Field Conditions:

All fields are currently open, subject to any notices posted by the town or school districts.

Please check the hotline for current conditions (789-TILT). "Field Closed" signs posted on the fields take precedence over postings on this page or our hotline.

COACHES/MANAGERS: Please note that these are not our fields, but we are responsible for them. If your field is posted as CLOSED either by the TPSC or by the town/ school/ recreation district it belongs to, and you practice on it anyway, your team will immediately lose further practice privileges. Period.

COACHES: For your practices, please walk your fields and identify wet/ saturated/ muddy areas. Cone them off and plan your practices to avoid them. Please consider the GOAL BOXES as CLOSED and keep your players out of these areas. Thank you for taking a field-conscious approach to your practices.

Why do we close fields on what seems to be a nice day?

Notes:

  • Coaches, please read the note below on field care.
  • Check the hotline for off-season field conditions. Note that closed signs posted by the town or schools will be more current and take precedence over any notices on the hotline or website.
  • For TPSC teams continuing on to winter Cup play: coaches and teams must schedule practice times with Kim.
  • During the season, the hotline (789-TILT) and website will be updated by 2:00 pm weekdays and 8:00 a.m. weekends in the event of inclement weather. During rainy periods, fields may be closed due to rainfall or wet field conditions.
  • If your field is posted as CLOSED either by the TPSC or by the town/ school/ recreation district it belongs to, and you practice on it anyway, your team will immediately lose further practice privileges.
  • Please note: if you have the Seminary Field hotline number, ignore it. Their updating service is unavailable and the information on the hotline may not be correct. Use our club hotline or this website page information instead.
  • See thunder & lightning policy below...

Field Care

Coaches:
Please walk your field before practice to identify the wet/ muddy/ saturated areas and cone them off and/or tailor your drills to avoid them. In particular, avoid the goal boxes and center of the field which tend to be the most worn. Wet days cause extraordinary amounts of damage to field conditions that take weeks or months to repair!

Thank you for taking a field-conscious approach to practice!

Competitive and Interleague Coaches and Managers:

If TPSC home games are rained out, it is YOUR responsibility to notify your opponents that your game is cancelled. Failure to do so may result in a forfeiture!!!

TPSC Hotline: 789-TILT

The following are the hotline numbers for our neighboring leagues:
    Mill Valley:    mvsc.org
    West Marin:  453-1704 or 488--0632 or 716-7313
    San Rafael:   454-4566
    Dixie:           472-4686
    Ross Valley:  721-1965
All of these numbers may have old messages on them. If you call the numbers and they still provide old information, then most likely the fields will be open for that weekend's games. To verify, call the opposing team's manager.

Please note the Seminary Field Hotline is not accurate. Use the TPSC hotline to check on the status of that field.

Thunder and Lightning:

The TPSC Policy about thunderstorms is as follows:
"TPSC practices and games will be cancelled in the presence of visible lightning or audible thunder."

Q: It's a gorgeous day, why is the field closed?
A:  A single game or practice on a wet field can destroy the field and it can take weeks to return to the state it was in previously. Therefore, like most clubs, we -and/or the owners of the fields- take the long view and close the fields if they are wet and muddy. Often, a field may look dry from a distance, but the areas that are saturated can only be seen by close inspection. We don't make these decisions lightly and walk the fields before making a decision.

The following factors are evaluated in determining if the fields will be open:

  • Condition of the field prior to the storm.
  • Amount of standing water, puddles or saturated ground.
  • Ability of particular fields to drain away standing water.
  • Forecasted weather for the day.

During rainy periods, please check this page or the phone hotline, 789-TILT, as they will be updated as conditions change.

TRYOUTS:

Depending on the weather at tryouts, we may choose one of the following options:

  • Hold full tryouts as scheduled, OR
  • Hold an abbreviated tryout, OR
  • Have signups only so that we know how many players are interested

Players should come prepared to play. (parents will need to sign the medical release.)

We'll look forward to seeing everyone at next ye

Winter Practice Schedules: For TPSC teams continuing on to winter Cup play: coaches and teams must schedule practice times with Kim.ar's tryouts!

This page will be used to update players, coaches, referees and families as to last minute rainout and rescheduling information.
