Tiburon Peninsula Soccer Club (TPSC) provides a comprehensive program of curriculum-based player development coaching and team play, for girls and boys grades K-12. Tiburon's Recreational Program is unique in that we supplement parent coaching with professional training and coaching at all levels. This helps ensure strong development of skills for the true recreational player, or a player seeking the skills to play competitively in the future.

While the Club offers soccer development programs year-round, the Recreation playing "season" runs each Fall, from late August through late October for grades K-3rd.  Grades 4th-12th finish their season in late October or early November with an end of season tournament.

Recreational teams/groups are formed on a 'grade-pure' (single grade/year) basis for Kindergarten thru 4th grade provided we have sufficient sign ups to form grade pure teams. For 5th grade thru 12th grade, teams are formed as 5th/6th, 7th/8th, 9th/10th and 11th/12th grade teams.  Coaching is provided by our volunteer parents and TPSC staff, and games are organized with a view to age-appropriate development and challenge, and with the long-term development of the player in mind.

TPSC will provide a pro trainer to run practice for kindergarten and 1st graders.  Players will train in groups for their weekday, once per week practice.  On Saturdays, players will play games on two side by side fields.

During the season, 2nd-4th grade teams practice either once (2nd) or twice (3rd-5th) during the school week with a professional coach working with the parent coach, and play games on the weekend coached by a volunteer parent coach.

5th/6th, 7th/8th grade teams will have a pro coach run both weekday practices and parent coaches will coach the weekend games.

In the older age groups (Grade 9th and above) teams have a full time professional coach, once per week practices, and either Saturday or Sunday games (but may occasionally play on both days).

Game Format

  • The Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade division teams will play mostly on Saturdays.  Players will be divided into two smaller teams and will play in small sided games with no goalkeepers
  • In 3rd and 4th grade, teams play 5v5 and 7v7, including a goalkeeper
  • 5th/6th grade teams play 9v9, including a goalkeeper
  • 7th/8th and 9th/12th grade teams play 11v11 games

Age Group Assignment

Age-group assignment is based upon grade level in the Fall of 2024.

  • For grades K-4, players are assigned to recreational teams/groups by grade.  There is no playing up or down, unless approved by the club board.
  • For grades 5-12, players are assigned to recreational teams by combining two grades.  5th/6th, 7th/8th, 9th/10th and 11th/12th grade teams are formed.
  • Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd Graders practice once per week on Wednesdays at Granada School.
  • All other grade practices will be posted in your team's teamsnap account as soon as we are able to confirm with the volunteer coach's schedule.

Team Placement

Register early!  Players will be placed on a "first come" basis for grades where the registration counts are higher than the open roster spots.

Team Placement for grade teams

Placement on grade teams is on a first-come basis. Upon registration, players are assigned a placement number. The first players registered in each group will be placed on a team until we meet the maximum team number, after which subsequent registrants will be placed on a waiting list in order of registration, and placed on a subsequent team(s), provided sufficient players sign up to form a team. If sufficient players register to enable more than one team, placement will be made to ensure balanced teams (balance of grade and ability). If insufficient players register to form a subsequent team(s), those registered will be put on a waiting list.

Team Formation

New teams are formed every year.

We strive to make balanced teams based on ability, grade and other considerations.

While every effort is made to place all registrants on teams, late registrants are not guaranteed a team placement and will be placed on a waiting list until such time a place is available (subject to the number of coaches available, number of players registered in a particular age group to make up teams, and maximum team size).

Among late registrants, placement preference will be given to players who have just moved to the area. In all cases, placement will made at the sole discretion of the Club.

Trying out for a competitive team this spring?  Will your child play rec if he/she does not make a comp team?  We recommend that you register for a recreational player spot so your child is saved a place in line.  If your child makes a TPSC comp team, we can remove them from the rec registration list.

Coaching Opportunities

Coaching - you can coach, we will help! Our program needs volunteer coaches for all teams and we make it very easy for you.  All of our recreational teams need game day coaches.  Some of the teams need coaching during the week.  Depending on the grade your child is in, we will provide you with coaching manual to help!  You can express your interest to coach when you register your child, or by contacting us at recreation@tiburonsoccer.org
